Scholarship Criteria and Award Guidelines

The Rio Grande Chapter offers two $500 annual scholarships, available to qualified Candidates for Designation who are in the process of attaining designation.  The money received can be used for expenses you have already incurred within the six-month period preceding the award, or for expenses you incur in the 12-month period following the award (upon completion of the course or exam).  


If you are a Candidate for Designation taking advanced level courses or nearing the completion of your designation track, you should apply!      


The criteria and award guidelines for the scholarship shall be as follows:

  • Scholarship recipients shall be limited to Candidates for Designation of the Appraisal Institute, Rio Grande Chapter, who are in the process of attaining designation

  • Scholarships shall only apply toward MAI or SRA designation track courses specifically advance designation classes, demo courses, and the Comprehensive Review course

  • Scholarship shall be used during the 12 month period following the award (unless specific exception is received by the awards committee)

  • The Scholarship Committee’s work will be done in compliance with the Appraisal Institute’s policies and guidelines regarding non-discrimination

  • The Scholarship Committee shall consider the following criteria in determining scholarship award recipients:

    • Candidates for Designation must be in good standing with the Appraisal Institute

    • General background regarding the applicant’s membership

    • Appraisal Institute courses successfully completed

    • Education background

    • Anticipated date of designation

    • Details regarding present employer or business and position in the company

    • Additional information that is pertinent in conjunction with the scholarship request

    • Advanced Candidates for Designation taking advanced AI courses, demo course, and Comprehensive Review course will be given priority
