About the Rio Grande Chapter

Welcome to the Rio Grande Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, proudly serving New Mexico as its only Appraisal Institute chapter and one of six chapters representing Texas. As part of a network of 66 chapters nationwide, we are dedicated to fostering excellence in the appraisal profession and supporting our vibrant local community.

Who We Are

The Rio Grande Chapter is a hub for real estate appraisers, property analysts, and valuation professionals who serve a wide range of clients, including mortgage lenders, financial institutions, government agencies, attorneys, and financial planners. Our diverse membership includes:

• Designated Members holding prestigious credentials like MAI, SRA, SRPA, AI-GRS, AI-RRS, SREA, and RM, reflecting advanced expertise and integrity.
• Candidates for Designation, working toward elite credentials with our support.
• Practicing Affiliates and Affiliates, including students and professionals exploring or advancing in valuation.

Our History

The Appraisal Institute was formed in 1991 through the unification of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers (AIREA) and the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, both founded in the 1930s to standardize appraisal practices. The Rio Grande Chapter carries forward this legacy, upholding the highest ethical and professional standards while adapting to the evolving needs of our region.

What We Do

We are the leading resource for the valuation profession in New Mexico and Texas, offering:

• Unparalleled Education: The Appraisal Institute delivers over 800 programs annually, led by experienced appraisers who bring real-world insights to the classroom. From licensing and certification to advanced topics like the new Uniform Residential Appraisal Report (URAR), our courses cater to all career stages and learning preferences, including in-person, online, and livestream formats. For example, our synchronous URAR class is only $175, reflecting our commitment to affordable, high-quality education.
• Industry Leadership: Stay ahead with access to cutting-edge industry news, award-winning publications, professional textbooks, and a vast library of research and case studies. Our resources keep you informed on contemporary practices, technological advancements, and specialized valuation topics.
• Advocacy for Appraisers: Through our Washington, D.C., office, we engage with legislators and regulators to promote policies that support appraisers and protect the public. We advocate on critical issues, such as limiting the overreach of Appraisal Management Companies (AMCs), and collaborate with consumer groups, homebuilders, and real estate associations to strengthen the profession.
• Community and Networking: Our chapter fosters camaraderie through events like our upcoming late summer gathering at the Savoy in Albuquerque, where we’ll offer appetizers and beverages. These events build connections that lead to referrals, collaboration, and a stronger local appraisal community.
